Attacks against the premises of the Afghan M&R Community in Greece and the Hellenic League for Human Rights

Athens, 23.3.2018- The Racist Violence Recording Network (RVRN) condemns the arson attack against the premises of the Afghan M&R Community in Greece, as well as the threats against the Hellenic League of Human Rights earlier the same day.

The RVRN expresses their support to the members of the Afghan M&R Community and the Hellenic League for Human Rights. We note that other members of the RVRN have been threatened or attacked as human rights defenders and due to their role in combatting racism. These attacks are an indication of the escalation of xenophobia and racist violence and call for constant vigilance.

The RVRN recalls that the fight against racism and racist violence and the legal response to violent xenophobic groups is a matter of democracy and respect of rule of law.
